Over the past three days Mombasa has been hit by the worst floods we have experienced in quite a long time. To mitigate this challenge the County Government of Mombasa set up a Disaster Management Committee, which is currently responding to various emergency situations throughout the county.
I would like to sincerely thank the committee together with all the staff and members of the community who have worked tireless to ensure the safety of their fellow brothers and sisters.
In collaboration with Kenya Red Cross, M.C.C.B.O and other well-wishers we are initiating a donations drive for blankets, mattresses. mosquito nets, water containers(jericans), chlorine, water guard, aqua tabs and food stuffs to help over 700 households so far which have currently been adversely affected by this situation .The collection point for all the donations will be at the inspectorate headquarters in Tudor.
The donations drive will be spearheaded by the County Executive in charge of Health Ms. Binti Omar. For any inquiries kindly contact her at 0702 115 528.
We commiserate with all those who have been affected by this calamity, and our sincere condolences go out to the family of the late Meshack Mwasia who lost his life in the tragic Kalahari landslides in Kipevu ward and those who were injured in Mburukenge (Tudor ward) including Kahindi Katana, Josphat Mwendwa and Paul Barasa.
